Week of October 3, 2011: Here is a slideshow of autumn foliage from around the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Even though the color is off and looks beat up this year from Tropical Storm Irene, some nice scenes still can be found.
I am not going to attempt to explain what is happening with this year's foliage, but will say it is very "off" when compared to other autumn seasons. Click on any image to view a lager preview.
Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge – Jefferson, New Hampshire USA
Quick Update September 25, 2011: Colors are starting to show in the Northern half of New Hampshire and the White Mountain region. Neither area is at peak yet, but the colors look good. Nice color can be found in the area of Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson, New Hampshire. The above image is from earlier this week.
Maples – Clarity level turned down to -100 for a soft look
Autumn, a new season – Even though everything really seems to be a few days (dare I say a week) behind schedule and the forests have a "beat up" look from Tropical Storm Irene, it should be another great season of image making. Some areas of the White Mountains that were near peak last year at this time are only at the early stages of changing colors.
Strong winds and heavy rain are changing the landscape quickly (White Mountains, NH). The above image was from a few days ago along the Hancock Branch. The bottom image is from the same location as the above earlier today (Oct 1). Looks different today!
Grafton Notch State Park – Screw Auger Falls, Maine
Foliage Report: Sept 29-30, 2010
The colors are looking pretty good in the White Mountains of New hampshire (Kancamagus Highway – North) and in parts of Maine, BUT they are fading fast and this weekend may be your last chance to see any great color in the White Mountains.
Kancamagus Pass – White Mountains, New Hampshire USA
Foliage Update: – Sept 26-28, 2010
The White Mountains and Northern New Hampshire are engulfed by the colors of autumn! You will find some great shots in the area of the Kancamagus Pass along the Kancamagus Highway. Grafton Notch State Park in Maine also looks very good (if you want to cross the border).

The bright colors of autumn are taken over the White Mountains, New Hampshire. The above image is from yesterday along the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountains, New Hampshire USA. The Kancamagus Pass looks pretty good right now.
