Whitcher Brook – Benton, New Hampshire
November Scenes, New Hampshire – The month of November has been very long and drawn out, but in a good way. For me, most months fly by, and there never seems to be enough time in a day to complete all the tasks I need to complete, but for some reason I am all caught up and ahead of schedule this month. I even started photographing an abandoned farm settlement this month that I initially planned to shoot next summer.
I have always enjoyed being in the White Mountains during this time of year. The changing of the seasons and breathing in the crisp mountain air reminders of what is to come. And around this time I start to wonder what type of winter are we going to have. Will it be a winter with lots of snow or will it be an extremely cold winter, with little snow. Living in the White Mountains, I prefer winters with lots of snow.
Step Falls Nature Preserve – Newry, Maine
Step Falls Nature Preserve – I was recently in Grafton Notch State Park in Newry, Maine and while there visited nearby Step Falls Nature Preserve. The preserve is known for its cascades and excellent view from the top of the falls, but on the day of my visit it was snowing and very windy so I focused on the cascades and forest scenes.
Step Falls Nature Preserve is a 24 acre lot located just outside of Grafton Notch State Park, along Route 26. Acquired in 1962, it was The Nature Conservancy’s first preserve in Maine. In 2012, the Mahoosuc Land Trust took over ownership of the preserve and has since made improvements to the grounds.
Acadia National Park, Maine – Frenchman Bay from Cadillac Mountain
Acadia National Park, Maine – If you love New England, a visit to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island in Maine is must. You can start the day by driving up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain to watch the sunrise over Frenchman Bay; its one of the first places in the United States to see the sunrise. After sunrise, you can explore the shoreline and network of carriage roads and trails in the park. It is a great place to explore!
This national park has an interesting past. It was first established as Sieur de Monts National Monument in July 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson. Then in February 1919, when it became a national park, the name was changed to Lafayette National Park. And then in January 1929, it was renamed Acadia National Park. Acadia was the first established national park east of the Mississippi River.
