Scenes of September, New Hampshire – As I look back at the month of September, I have realized that it has been a very busy month. And as usual, there is never enough time in the day to get everything done that needs to be done. At any rate. September is one of my favorite months of the year here in the White Mountains because it is the start of autumn foliage season. I also love the cool nights that come with this month.

My shooting schedule this month had me shooting many different subjects. I spent time shooting historic stone structures, landscapes, conservation issues, and a few forgotten waterfalls. I also did some scouting in northern New Hampshire in preparation for the autumn foliage season. And I spent some time exploring the backroads of the White Mountains.

Scenes of September, White Mountains – Many New Englanders, myself included, look forward to the cool September nights, and after the heat wave we have had this summer we are finally getting some cool temperatures here in the New Hampshire White Mountains. The problem is the cool air didn’t arrive until the end of this month, and most of September has been very hot, and the foliage has only begun to change.

For the last few years, I have started shooting autumn foliage scenes around September 24, and one year I was even shooting foliage scenes on the last day of summer, but not this year. The weather has slowed the process down, and the trees are barely showing any color. I dare say we are at least a week or more behind schedule here in the White Mountains region.

September, White Mountains New Hampshire – You will find that many living in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and New England region love the month of September. This month is all about changes. Good bye to the warm summer days and hello to the cool autumn nights! I love the cool mornings we are having.

I suspect most want a foliage update so I with start with that. The leaves are changing quickly! Peak foliage in the Great North Woods and the White Mountains region will be in the next couple of weeks. And as of today I am finding enough foliage north of Franconia Notch to create images. This weekend should be great.

September 2013 - Trail repair work along the Lincoln Woods Trail in Lincoln, New Hampshire USA. This trail was damaged by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011 and is now just being repaired. Tropical Storm Irene caused destruction along the East coast of the United States and the White Mountain National Forest was officially closed during the storm.

Scenes of September, New Hampshire – September is a month that I usually take some time off from the photography industry. I get a little burnt out around this time of year, so I like to take a few weeks off. I did go out and shoot a few subjects, but for the most part I have been playing catchup in the office and getting ready for the autumn foliage season, which has kicked off.
