Ossipee Mountains, New Hampshire

The Ossipee Mountains are part of an ancient volcanic ring dike, which makes the landscape very interesting to explore, and the views of Lake Winnipesaukee are excellent. The Castle in the Clouds conservation area consists of 5,381 acres in the towns of Moultonborough and Tuftonboro (Ossipee Mountains). This conservation area has 30 miles of trails maintained by volunteers of Lakes Region Conservation Trust (LRCT). The LRCT offers an interesting hiking program known as the Castle in the Clouds Conservation Area hiker achievement patch program. In order to receive a hiker achievement patch from LRCT, hikers must ascend five major mountains (below) and hike sixteen designated trails that are within LRCT’s Castle in the Clouds Conservation area. For more information and a printable application, see the LRCT website. This list is recognized by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust and should not be confused with the unofficial Ossipee 10 list that is floating around.
